Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access (SNHPA) is a 501 (c) (6) nonprofit organization of over 1000 public and private nonprofit hospitals and health systemsthroughout the United States. We are the leading advocate and resource for those providers who serve their communities through participation in the 340B drug pricing program.

About thePosition

SNHPAis recruiting a candidate to join our executive leadership team and oversee federal legislative affairs for our growing non-profit advocacy organization in Washington, DC. This rewarding and exciting position provides the opportunityto become an advocate for the340B drug discount program, Safety Net Hospitals and the vulnerable patients theyserve.

The position is responsible for directing relations with Congressional offices and the Administration and overseeing the work of SNHPA’s legislative team and contract lobbyists. The Senior Director will work closelywithmember hospitals to keep theminformed on federal legislativematters. The individual hired for this position will report to the Association’s Chief Executive Officer/ President.

Responsibilities Government Relations
  • Develop, with senior executives, SNHPA’s legislative agenda, strategy and proposals.

  • Oversee and lead all outreach by SNHPA staff and contract lobbyists to Capitol Hill and the Administration.

  • Responsible for ensuring that SNHPA has strong, ongoing, bipartisan relations withCongressional offices.

  • Responsible for maintaining and cultivating relationships with the Administration, especially at HHS.

  • Implement and coordinate legislative activities including participation in strategy meetings with staff and consultants; preparation of member alerts, Hill visit reports and sign-on letters; moderating Government Relations Committee conference calls; and coverage of Association meetings.

  • Responsible for drafting and maintaining legislative information, including talking points, legislative updates, letters to elected officials, articles for SNHPA’s electronic publications and updating relevant areas of SNHPA’s website.

  • Speak at conferences and other public forums.

  • Oversee and supervise work of SNHPA’s Policy and Advocacy Manager as well as Government Relations and intern.

  • Oversee grassroots and grasstops efforts including mobilization of members on key legislation.

  • Coordinate activities with allied organizations on legislative and policy initiatives.

  • Oversee and lead Legislative Day events and all other member lobbying activities.

Requirements Qualifications
  • Candidatesshould have atleast 10years of experience on Capitol Hill and/oringovernment affairs atthefederallevel.

  • A proven track record of legislative accomplishments related to health care is required.

  • Strongwriting and communicationsskills are amust.

  • Experience at national trade association in a supervisory role, experience managing contract lobbyists, is a plus.

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical policy, Medicare, Medicaid, and hospital issues is a must.
