USC Facilities Management Services (FMS) is seeking a Facilities Project Manager to join its team.

FMS is a diverse group of innovative and talented professionals who provide high quality facilities maintenance and management services in support of education and research at the University of Southern California. FMS values quality, transparency, dedication, collaboration, and innovation.

The Facilities Project Manager is required to have civil or mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) system knowledge, and responsible for managing the construction of campus utilities and MEP deferred maintenance projects for the University Park and Health Sciences campuses; manages facilities related projects such as HVAC improvements and utility infrastructure projects; monitors account reconciliation and project status; manages project day to day operations and project related administrative activities; coordinates activities with outside vendors and various university departments; manages all documentation and information flow related to projects.


  • Serves as a Civil or MEP project manager for Facilities Management Services (FMS). Provides leadership and direction on all project operations and activities such as the design, plan, schedule, scope and budget.
  • Manages deferred maintenance and renovation projects consisting primarily of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure projects and Civil underground infrastructure projects
  • Provides project construction administration. Reviews submittals, interprets documents, and field observation reports. Ensures contractor compliance with university standards, project specifications and local requirements.
  • Provides direction on all project operations and activities such as the design, planning, schedule, project scope and project budget. Monitors account status and ensures compliance with fiscal guidelines.
  • Ensures projects comply not only with university standards and specifications, but also local jurisdictional requirements. Provides construction phase support such as review of submittals and documents and field observation.
  • Manages and negotiates consultant services on assigned projects. Monitors and evaluates the appropriateness and progress performed and completed by licensed or certified consultants.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews to ensure that required work is satisfactorily performed and completed by certified consultants.
  • Develops budget and timetables. Authorizes construction budget expenditures and monitors account reconciliation and status. Provides forecasts and projections, as requested. Directs ongoing purchasing activities, including authorization of construction services.
  • Inspects current building systems such as AC units, automatic controls and lights. Determines whether systems need to be repaired, replaced or retrofitted. Recommends equipment or system to install.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues and problems as needed.
  • Prepares financial and/or other reports, as needed.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff, student workers or contractors, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction, working on large complex commercial, industrial, or institutional projects; basic knowledge of underground utilities including chilled water, steam and electrical or building MEP systems and components, including function, safety and quality characteristics; knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, and MS Project; excellent communication skills. The incumbent will be required to make regular site visits.

Minimum Field of Expertise

Directly related education and project management experience with increasing leadership/management responsibility in electrical, mechanical or plumbing systems and/or planning. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management Civil / Mechanical Engineering or related fields preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience in construction or Project Management, working on large complex commercial, industrial, or institutional projects.


Leads employees performing similar work on a project basis.
May oversee student, temporary and/or resource workers.

Preferred Field of Expertise

Basic knowledge of building systems components, including function, safety and quality characteristics. Must have knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, and MS Project.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Will be required to make regular site visits.
