Job Details The Nuclear Energy Institute is currently seeking a Director, Federal Programs to develop and implement legislative and governmental programs in support of NEI objectives in the annual federal budget and appropriations process.

This position is responsible for developing and fostering relations and communications with Members of Congress and their staff, Administration, Senate and House Committees of jurisdiction, and other key officials to enhance their knowledge and understanding of commercial nuclear technology in an effort to influence their opinions, attitudes and actions; as well as direct nuclear industry programs on specific legislative and administrative issues. Additionally, he or she will be responsible for Congressional hearing preparation which includes; briefing witnesses prior to hearings, drafting testimony and providing information to Congressional staff. This position will brief and provide relevant materials for Executive Committee/Board of Directors, Government Relations Advisory Committee and other key officials on assigned issues, maintain and update lobbying materials, serve as a primary point of contact for sister trade associations and other entities and be an overall contributor to the efficient and effective legislative effort to advance NEI’s goals and priorities.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess at minimum a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. In addition to the educational requirement, the incumbent must have at least ten years of policy development and advocacy experience and three to five years of budget and appropriations experience in Congress, industry, or the executive branch; a particular emphasis in energy, environmental and trade issues desired. He or she must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, with consensus building skills being essential.
